Team Member Spotlight

You may have caught word that there's a new manager in town! And by in town, we mean at our Swooft Chicago location! We are so excited for Mia to join our management team. Her pet care experience, along with her leadership style and positive attitude made the decision to have her lead our team of Swooft walkers an easy one. Read below to get to know Mia better.

Introduce yourself! Tell us a bit about your background working with animals.

After I adopted my first dog as an adult, living in the Bay Area in California, I was hooked. Literally all I wanted to do was spend time with dogs. :) I began my first job in animal care as a pet sitter for local families and a foster parent for rescue dogs. I then decided to learn more about dogs and medical care and worked for several veterinarians as a customer care coordinator and veterinary assistant. After moving back to Chicago in 2015, I started fostering dogs and volunteering with ALIVE Rescue. Soon I was a shelter manager and then the Director of Operations. I wore a lot of hats and also got a huge opportunity to save many cats, dogs, and a few pigs. After 6 years, I shifted from rescue to animal sheltering and became the Shelter Manager of Animal Care League in Oak Park. I learned so much about compassion, patience, and the importance of treating each animal and human as an individual. I am very excited to bring all my experience and life skills to Swooft and meet all your furry friends!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

My Bachelor's Degree is in acting.

What is something you have learned about yourself since becoming a part of the pet care world?

I don't want to work in any other field except with dogs.

What animal is most similar to your personality and why?

Coco Louise, the dog in the photo with me. She's small but mighty, snuggly, barky, and always up for an adventure!

Do you have any of your own pets at home?

Coco Louise and my other rescue dog named Jeff. I miss having cats and secretly would love to have a rat.

What is your ideal way to spend a day off?

With my dogs on a beach!

If you could trade lives with any animal for a day, what animal would you choose?

A cheetah - how cool would it be to run that fast!?

Would you rather be able to read your pet's mind or have your pet live as long as you?

I would like to read my pet's mind!

The holiday season has just ended! What's your favorite holiday tradition?

My favorite holiday tradition is eating holiday cookies and decorating the tree.
