Weekday Pet Care Providers (part-time)

Wild Things is currently seeking dog-loving walkers to fill long-term positions in Batavia, Geneva, and St. Charles

Applicants must be available from 10am-3pm Monday through Friday. Availability for vacation care is encouraged, but not required.

Pay is per walk. This is a very part time job to start (10-20 walks per week). More walks available as business increases. On average, an established walker makes $300-$400/week.

We ask for at least a one-year commitment to us and our furry friends.

Job Description

Basic Function

Pet care providers will be required to travel to clients’ homes during specified time frames and perform tasks outlined by the client or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  1. Walk dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperaments, up to 3 at a time.
  2. Provide affection and play to dogs, cats, and small animals.
  3. Perform wellness checks on each animal in the home and relay any concerns to the pet owner or supervisor.
  4. Feed animals.
  5. Administer oral or topical medications.
  6. Pick up pet waste.
  7. Scoop litter boxes.
  8. Clean up any accidents in the home.
  9. Clean small animal or reptile cages.
  10. Bring in mail.
  11. Water indoor or outdoor plants.
  12. Take out and bring in trash cans.
  13. Communicate with the pet owner about each visit via text message, email journal, or hand written note as specified by the client.
  14. Handle check payments.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Must love animals of all shapes and sizes.
  • Must be physically capable of handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
  • Must have above average knowledge of dog behavior and body language, and be able to interact safely with dogs of all temperaments.
  • Must be knowledgeable about common health problems in dogs and cats, and be able to recognize and communicate symptoms to pet owner and supervisor.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for several hours, and walk 5-7 miles per day in all types of weather.
  • Must be reliable, honest, organized and flexible, be able to work independently, and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism.
  • Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills, customer service and time management skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills and possess a great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to hear and see the environment around them.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have internet access and a working smartphone with data plan and GPS.
  • Must have a reliable insured vehicle and valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel up to 50 miles per day.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Education/Training

Degree: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience

Previous pet ownership is required. Prior experience working with animals is preferred.

Weekend Pet Care Providers (part-time)

Wild Things is currently seeking pet care providers for long term positions in St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, and South Elgin.

Applicants must be available from 7am-10pm Saturdays and Sundays for a minimum of two weekends per month in order to be considered. Additional availability is encouraged.

Applicants are required to live within a 5-mile radius of one of the listed service areas.
